In a nutshell...
Hi, I'm Randy.
I was born and raised in Florida, despite my best wishes. My world was shaped pretty severely by the divorce of my parents, and then their subsequent deaths (Mom was killed by a drunk driver when I was 11, Dad had a heart attack 2 years later, etc.*). I wasn't a big believer in depression or bipolar disorder, but BOY HOWDY they believed in me.
Surviving my teens in spite of religious trauma, losing my parents, and a brain full of depression remains my proudest accomplishment.
I studied computer science in college, right up until a manic spell told me that I should pursue screenwriting, employability be damned. Now I work as a software engineer, consumed by as many new projects as my ADHD brain can conceive. Some I've even finished!
I've been in plays and performed in sketch and improv comedy troupes; played the drums for song parodies that were really funny 30 years ago; broken a couple vertebrae while sledding; served a mission for the LDS (Mormon) church; left the LDS church; married, had 3 wonderful kids, and divorced; worked on enterprise software; gone viral with dumb websites; and won 2nd place at a Cub Scout Day Camp obstacle course. (I should've been first, but the red line they painted in the grass to mark the spot where you had to turn around was invisible to my colorblind eyes and I just kept runnin'.)
I don't know what comes next, but I'm still writing, coding, and dreaming of big things that aren't too heavy to lift. If you want to reach me, my address is my name (Randy Tayler) at gmail.com. I'm also on Bluesky.
* Actually, that's about it - I've only lost those two parents
